Most adults with one or more missing teeth are worth evaluating for implants. Good candidates typically have enough bone volume to support a post, healthy gum tissue, and no uncontrolled health conditions that slow healing.

Patients missing several teeth in a row may qualify for implant bridges or a 3-on-6 solution. Those missing a full arch are often candidates for All-on-X or implant-supported dentures. Some patients need preparatory treatment before implant placement, which we identify during your first evaluation.

Our team uses the Trios 6 scanner and Dexis OP 3D imaging to map your bone structure before treatment begins. That level of detail allows for precise placement planning and more predictable results. In some cases, we place the implant right after removing the tooth.

From there, the process moves through a healing phase where the implant fuses with the bone, followed by crown placement. Each step follows the plan built from your initial imaging data.

Implant treatment happens in stages, though some patients qualify for immediate placement that shortens the overall timeline. If bone grafting or extractions are needed first, we include them in your plan from the beginning.

You’ll know what to expect at each step before anything begins. Every part of your treatment takes place in our office so that you won’t be sent to different locations for different parts of the same procedure.

Sooner than most patients expect. Bone loss begins in the months after you lose a tooth. The longer a gap stays open, the more options narrow.

If a denture no longer stays in place, or if nearby teeth have started shifting toward a space, those are signs the window for a simpler solution is closing. Implants placed before significant bone loss occurs tend to have more straightforward outcomes.

Dental bridges require reshaping healthy teeth on either side of the gap to hold a false tooth in place. Removable dentures sit on top of the gum and do nothing to stop the bone from shrinking beneath them. Implants replace the root itself. That keeps the bone active and holds neighboring teeth in position. 

A landmark comparison of tooth-supported and implant-supported restorations followed both types for years after placement and found the implant-supported prostheses held up slightly better over time, with 95.2% vs 93.8% five-year survival for implant-supported versus tooth-supported restorations. Because that same research tracked outcomes to the ten-year mark, it offers a rare long-term look at how implant-based restoration compares with bridgework built on natural teeth, which is another reason implants are often the recommended path when a patient has adequate bone to support one.

When a root is gone, the bone that held it starts to shrink. That process can’t be reversed without grafting, and grafting adds both cost and time. Shifting teeth, bite changes, and a denture that no longer fits are all results of that bone loss. Patients who wait often find that a case that would have been simple now needs extra steps first.

A systematic review of what happens to the jawbone after a tooth is removed found the ridge can lose a substantial share of its width within just six months if nothing is done to preserve it, with up to 63% horizontal bone loss within six months of extraction. That’s part of why dentists encourage patients to have a replacement plan in place sooner rather than later. The bone doesn’t wait for you to decide.

Crowns work for teeth that are damaged but still have a healthy root. This includes teeth with large cracks, decay too extensive for a filling, teeth that have had a root canal, and implant posts ready for a final restoration.

Patients whose existing crowns have worn out or failed are also candidates for replacement. Your dentist checks the remaining tooth structure to confirm a crown is the right path before any work begins.

You leave with a permanent crown placed in a single visit. You won’t need a temporary crown or wait two weeks for lab work to come back.

For most patients, a crown goes from preparation to final placement in one appointment. If the crown is going on a dental implant, it follows after the implant has fully fused with the bone. If a root canal was needed first, the crown is placed at a separate visit once the tooth has settled. Either way, same-day production removes the multi-week gap that older crown workflows require.

Before a damaged tooth breaks, cracks caught early can often be covered before they reach the nerve. A tooth that has already had a root canal should be crowned soon after, because it becomes brittle without its original blood supply. Once placed, a well-maintained crown can last 15 years or longer in many cases.

The traditional process involves a preparation visit, a temporary crown, a wait of one to three weeks, and a second appointment to seat the final restoration. Same-day crowns cut out the temporary and the wait entirely. The digital design process lets your dentist check the fit before the crown is produced.

A clinical comparison of CAD/CAM-milled crowns against conventionally cast crowns measured the gap between the crown and tooth at the margin, finding digitally produced crowns fit noticeably tighter, with a 77.4 vs 95.6-micrometer marginal gap for digital versus conventionally cast crowns. A tighter margin matters clinically. It’s one of the main factors that keeps bacteria and decay from working their way back underneath the crown.

A cracked or weakened tooth without a crown can fracture below the gumline. At that point, extraction may be the only option. Decay that reaches the pulp requires a root canal before you can place a crown. That adds to both cost and treatment time. A straightforward crown case becomes much more complicated the longer it goes untreated.

A systematic review of cracked-tooth outcomes found that a tooth treated with a root canal but never given a protective crown carried a dramatically higher chance of eventually needing extraction, with an 11.3-fold higher extraction risk without a crown after root canal treatment. That gap between “needs a crown” and “gets a crown” is where many otherwise savable teeth are lost.

Prepless veneers work best for patients with mild to moderate cosmetic concerns. That includes staining that whitening hasn’t fully resolved, small chips, minor gaps between teeth, or front teeth that are slightly uneven in shape.

Because no enamel is removed, the process can be reversed in a way traditional veneers can’t. Patients with significant bite problems, severe crowding, or active gum disease are generally not candidates until those issues are treated first.

Our team scans your teeth digitally to capture their current shape. We then design veneers to layer over the existing surface without drilling in most cases. We produce 3D-printed veneers in the office, which lets us check fit and appearance before final placement.

Most patients don’t need anesthesia because no tooth reduction is involved. The result is a more comfortable experience than traditional veneer preparation from start to finish.

Dentists usually discuss prepless veneers during a smile consultation. Your dentist reviews your bite, gum health, and cosmetic goals before recommending a path. In some cases, teeth whitening is done before veneers are placed so the veneer shade matches a brighter baseline.

When your gums are healthy and your bite is stable. Patients still in orthodontic treatment or managing active gum disease should complete those treatments first. Once your mouth is in good shape, you can plan and place veneers in a short timeframe. With proper care, prepless veneers can last many years before any replacement is needed.

Traditional veneers require removing a thin layer of enamel before placement. That makes the change permanent, so the tooth will always need a veneer from that point forward. Composite bonding preserves the tooth but tends to chip and stain more quickly over time. Prepless veneers keep the natural tooth fully intact while delivering results that hold up better than bonding.

A ten-year practice-based study of patients with either ceramic veneers or direct composite (bonding-style) veneers found that ceramic restorations held their appearance and structure longer over the full decade, with greater ten-year longevity than direct composite veneers. That’s the trade-off in plain terms: bonding is reversible and cheaper up front, but ceramic veneers are the more durable long-term investment.

A chipped tooth doesn’t stay the same size. Enamel continues to wear and crack from that weak point, a process closely tied to ongoing enamel erosion. Gaps between teeth collect plaque in ways that are harder to clean, raising the risk of decay over time.

Research has also linked ongoing dissatisfaction with smile appearance to reduced confidence and lower quality of life in adults. A quality-of-life study of young adults with visible dental imperfections found the large majority reported real, measurable effects on daily life, with self-confidence around their smile among the most affected areas, with 87.8% reporting quality-of-life impacts from dental appearance concerns. Addressing these concerns supports both oral health and overall well-being.
